A Butterfly A Field Away

14 Feb 2024  C. chou  2 mins read.

Joyously,
A beauty
Skips my way.

A smile
Spreads Across
My Cracked Lips

As I stare,
Transfixed.

Held captive,
By Your alluring eyes
Your gentle face.

I want
To pull you closer

I want
To hold you prisoner

To make you mine,
Forever.

So lovely
So carefree,
Like a butterfly

Fluttering
In a field
of flowers

And I know
You’re not meant
For a cell

After all,
You are
Such a lovely flower

I know,
You’re meant to be free
To soar higher

For I
Could never
Stifle
That alluring willpower

Yet,
Somehow,
You latched on to me
Anyway

Choosing me,
Despite a field
Of others.

Your arms
Wrap around
My shoulders

Your breath
On my skin
As you
Draw me closer

Unfrozen,
My arms
Find their way
Around your waist

And,
My world suddenly
Bursts into color

Watching
Your mischievous eyes
Your eager lips

And I already know,
What you’re
Going to say

“Happy Valentine’s Day.”
A mere whisper
As you pull me
Into your warm
Embrace

And,
In gratitude
I know that
I’d never have it
Any other way,

My precious butterfly
My dear Valentine,
And my one and only other.
