A Hand Into the Sky

He puts a hand into the sky,
In his heart asks why,
Why did it have to be goodbye?

He puts a hand into the sky,
So many years have gone by,
But why?
Why goodbye?

In all those years that he’s tried,
In all those years that he’s cried,
Just how many were to sustain the lie?

In all those years that he’s tried,
In all those years he’s died,
Just how many tears have fallen from her eye?

He puts a hand into the sky,
For all those years he’s tried,
For all those years he’s cried,
For that love that’s gone by,
And in his heart, he asks: Why?

This poem was inspired by a passing inspiration and the “A Word A Day” writing prompt from the “Promptly Written” Publication for February 1st.
