A Memory
Looking up at the sky
At the rain water
Falling from above
Beyond the transparent umbrella
An image flashes by
Carrying beautiful memories
Of what once was
And of
Those dreams
That would never be
With a quiet
Pitter Patter
The raindrops fall
Dancing over
The home
Of what was once
A living person
Quietly,
They pass over
The soft green
Patches of grass and land
Respectful of
The underlying
Black box
Where a good friend lies
A loyal citizen
A fellow soldier
A friend like no other
Tear filled eyes
Stare at the gravestone,
With a bouquet of flowers
At hand
Remembering that name
Remembering that person
Remembering their sacrifice
In their nation’s name.
