My Dog and I
In the sunlight,
I sat.
My mind at peace,
Knowing,
That my best friend
Had my back.
Panting,
He runs to me.
His long tongue,
Hanging out
From his open jaws.
A open my arms,
Wide,
Welcoming him.
He taught me
To feel safe,
And I taught him,
The same.
He taught me
To be brave
Around strangers
And I showed him
That humans
Weren’t a danger.
He is my
Best friend
And my teacher.
And so,
I’m glad
We have each other.
