Sharing A Meal

Before a fire,
By the warmth
Of the hearth,
Sits a figure.

Upon careful inspection,
Is carefully
Stirring the contents
Of a dark cauldron.

Bubbling,
The liquid boils
As the pot
Sits over the fire

The door creaks open,
Children
Rush into the room

At the sound,
The figure turns,
Revealing a woman
With a warm smile.

Immediately,
She welcomes
The children forward
With wide arms.

Likewise,
The children
Eagerly push
Their bowls forward

Ladle in hand,
She fills each bowl
Without hesitation

And soon,
They find themselves
Sitting around
A round table

Together,
Sharing comradery
And the simple happiness
Of drinking
A warm bowl of soup.
